Conversation on Identity, Multilingualism, and Poetic Resistance

Athena Farrokhzad | Uljana Wolf | Olivia Tapiero

Welcome to a conversation where three poets explore how language bears traces of movement and history, and how poetry can act as a counterforce to nationalist and exclusionary narratives. It addresses poetic expressions that navigate the borders between language, identity, and political action.

Joining the conversation are Olivia Tapiero, a Canadian author and poet from French-speaking Quebec. Her works are characterized by linguistic fractures, resistance, and a critical eye on institutions. She has been internationally recognized and is currently regarded as one of the most original and captivating authors of her generation in the Francophone world.

Also participating is Athena Farrokhzad, a Swedish poet, playwright, and translator with extensive international reach. She has translated several central poetic voices into Swedish and is currently working on Tragedies, three plays in book form inspired by classical Greek works. In them, Farrokhzad addresses some of the major questions of our time: tyranny, rebellion, colonialism, war, power, and powerlessness.

The German poet Uljana Wolf leads the conversation. Her combination of poetry, translation and theoretical reflection makes her a bridge between art, language policy and social analysis.

Afterwards, readings from the works of  Tapiero, Farrokhzad and Wolf will follow.
