Program for High Schools!

In a time when the world is marked by war, genocide, political polarization, and the resurgence of authoritarian tendencies, the ideals of the Enlightenment—humanity, democracy, and knowledge—are put to the test. Some authors, poets, and intellectuals have the courage to face this challenge. How can resistance be mobilized? And can poetry and literature make a difference?
Here, high school students will meet several authors and poets who have pondered these questions: Artur Dron, a “front poet” from Ukraine, who also serves as a sniper soldier; Asmaa Azaizeh, a Palestinian journalist and poet who reflects the human consequences of war and occupation in her book Don’t Believe Me When I Talk About War; and Agri Ismael, a Swedish-Kurdish author and cultural writer who has also written extensively on inequality, drawing from his experience as a lawyer in the international finance sector.
The three will converse under the guidance of Edgar Mannheimer, journalist, cultural writer, and host of the acclaimed podcast Kalam.
