Writing as Redemption – the Question of Reconciliation

Elisabeth Hjorth will be the first speaker of the festival with a lecture on writing, forgiveness, redemption and hope.

Elisabeth Hjorth is doctor of theology specializing in ethics and professor of creative writing at Gothenburg University. She is also a poet and a writer and has published a poetry collection The Nuclear Family (Kärnfamiljen), and two novels, The Dedication (Hängivelsen) and At the Start of Heaven (Vid himlens början). Her latest publication is the collection of essays Mutant (Mutant) published in 2020.

Her books revolve around themes such as family, power, women and faith. She has been rewarded the Karin Boye literary prize and the Gerard Bonnier essay prize. Her doctoral dissertation is entitled “Desperate Readings. Literature as Resistance and Reading as Ethics” (Förtvivlade läsningar – Litteratur som motstånd och läsning som etik).
